Origins
The world of Shard Bugs is inhabited by intelligent insects, arachnids, worms, and other creatures that have been influenced by mysterious objects known as Shards, which are believed to have originated from extradimensional beings known as Cosmic Avatars.
These Shards produce a powerful essence called "dust," which is highly sought after and has created factions of loyal devotees to each of the Cosmic Avatars. But this division of devotion has resulted in a war between the factions, with the only outliers being unaligned mercenaries-for-hire and those who must deal with the consequences of such conflict.
The first set of Shard Bugs introduces three prominent Cosmic Avatars:
While certain bug have a natural affinity to specific Cosmic Avatars based on their traits and characteristics, it's not uncommon for bugs to deviate and form connections with different Avatars. This reflects the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of society in the Shard Bugs universe.
